  24. I just read about an automatic blood analysing machine (manufactured
  25. by Boehringer, West Germany) that was used on the soviet space station
  26. Mir. The machine (mass about 5 kg) was transported to Mir on board
  27. of the Progress 39 spacecraft on December 25, 1988.
  28.  
  29. As pointed out they used a standard blood analyser with a voltage
  30. converted normally used for mobile and aircraft operations of the
  31. system. The only changes required by the soviets prior to the space
  32. application was additional fixing of a power switch with glue
  33. and tightening of some screws.

  35. The machine was used to do in-orbit blood analysis of the cosmonauts.
  36.  
  37. I just wonder whether it will be possible on US (or European) missions
  38. to use nearly standard earth-lab equipment. I suspect that already
  39. the non-standard power supply will prevent them (us?) from doing this.

  68. Sorry to barge into your mailing list like this, but this is a rather time
  69. sensitive request.

  71. I believe that the US Space Shuttle is currently in orbit, and has a path
  72. which takes it at 57o, which would make it visible from here in Ireland.
  73. As a result, the Irish Astronomical Society would like to track it as it
  74. passes overhead, and hopefully get some TV coverage with the aim of increasing
  75. public awareness of things astronomical and space-related.

  79. Would any of you folks out there have either Orbital Elements for the shuttle,
  80. (as was the case with the Mir missions),or alternatively have a voice or FAX
  81. number where I could contact NASA or other sources for definite information ?
  82. (My only information so far is that NASA are transmitting on 20185 using SSB).
